About Us

Organic Doorstep delivers food produced `as nature intended` directly to your doorstep in Northern Ireland. We believe that organic food should be accessible and affordable to everybody.

When you order with us you are dealing with small farmers and growers, not multi national companies. All our produce is fair traded and carefully packed by a dedicated team of packers.

All produce is delivered to you within 24 hours of packing

We truly are what we eat ...

Organic Doorstep is a family run business based in Castlederg, Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland. We have a 100 hectare Dairy farm with a milk processing plant on site. All our fresh liquid milk products as well as buttermilk* and cream are manufactured here.

After converting all our land to organic status in 2001, we decided to take our organic milk to the doorstep, but utilising a different approach to conventional milkruns.

Organic Doorstep was formed in 2002 and really we have grown from there. We now regularly serve around a thousand customers in N Ireland and have over 50 different products to offer.

We also supply shops under the brand Oakdene Organics and currently have our Organic milk in all larger Spar and Vivo shops throughout the province.

Our Products, our processing plant and distribution are all certified by the Soil Association and all carry their trademark symbol.

Organic Doorstep features on The Great British Menu

*Did you see us featuring in the BBC2 programme "The Great British Menu"?
Paul Rankin, a locally born celebrity chef cooked his desert using our Organic Buttermilk and actually came personally to our premises here in Castlederg to see how we produce it. The chefs in London  were so impressed with the product that they asked us to send more!

The winner of the competition Richard Corrigan used our product in his desert which was served to the Queen on her 80th birthday celebration dinner!!

Organic systems recognise that our health is directly connected to the health of the food we eat and, ultimately, the health of the soil.

Here are some of the main features of organic farming:

  • Organic farming severely restricts the use of artificial chemical fertilisers and pesticides.
  • Instead, organic farmers rely on developing a healthy, fertile soil and growing a mixture of crops.
  • Animals are reared without the routine use of drugs, antibiotics and wormers common in intensive livestock farming.

Not just organic food...
Going organic isn't just about organic food - it's a way of life. Today organic wood, clothing, gardening products and even restaurants can all be found.

'Organic' is legally protected
The term organic is defined by law - all organic food production and processing is governed by a strict set of rules. Look for the Soil Association symbol as your guarantee of the highest organic standards.

Why more people are choosing organic...
Organic farmers, as far as possible, avoid using unnecessary chemical sprays. Food additives linked to asthma and heart disease are among those banned under organic standards.

The environment
Organic farming is friendlier to the environment so there is a much greater diversity of birds, butterflies and plants on organic farms. Organic standards ban the use of GM technology.

Animal welfare
Organic farming requires animals to be kept in more natural, free-range conditions with a more natural diet.

Taste
Many people tell us they buy organic food because they believe it tastes better.

"Organic farming delivers the highest quality, best-tasting food, produced without artificial chemicals or genetic modification, and with respect for animal welfare and the environment, while helping to maintain the landscape and rural communities"

HRH the Prince of Wales, Soil Association patron
